Is It Hot Or Is It Incest?

Posted Jan 27 2009 7:15pm
I am developing a most unlikely yet heartening-to-me blog friendship with a gentleman commenter, Silent Male. As he puts it, we are "...really different, as different as men and women, democrats and republicans, oil and water, activists and other activists, steam and ice. " He supports Bush. I don't. I really don't, in fact I don't even more than before with all the new stuff going on. Silent Man is a Christian who would prefer that if women want a bigger role in the church than that given to them in the Bible, they start a new religion. I am a woo-woo Tantric Mystic (for lack of a better term) who feels that the petals on the flower are many, but the flower is one (insert airy fairy music here). His blog is a vehicle for him to rant (as he calls it) about women and the inequities he sees and has experienced. He is new in my world and the beginnings of our discussions are here at the tail end of the comments.

Here we sit, polar opposites on issues which NO ONE will discuss without an argument and we are talking about some of them. As I told him, in my opinion, it's hats off to him as he is the one who initiated this discussion, and then kept coming back in comments. I have started reading his blog more and commenting there, too. We are talking politely, respectfully. There are a few places where our minds do meet, one of them being that while we can and should have vehicles for venting our anger, polarization will ultimately get us nowhere. This makes me happy.

He had a post about an inequity he sees in terms of the courts' handling of cases of teachers who engage in sex with their underage students and the double standards in sentencing men and women. I asked him a question, learned from his answer and find that I would like more varied feedback on this subject as it is one that has interested me for some time.

My comment:

I am interested in this phenomenon lots and have thought about it from time
to time- why is it that it is considered "ok" and "sexy" if the teacher, MILF,
mom next door seduces a younger male, but perverse if a male does it to a young
woman? I think this is part of why the teacher thing you mention is different-
that society looks at it differently for some reason and, S-Man... that part of
that society is men.

I don't think that this is totally to blame women for...think about it. I
have heard many men tell me they WANTED their teacher to seduce them. They
fantasized about it. I heard men applaud the young man for having 'scored' with
the 'hot' teacher. I hear far fewer women having a fantasy about their male
teachers. Possibly a crush here and there (although that was not nearly as
epidemic as the other way around) but never being seduced.

I also find very odd the whole related (but different) topic of incest. Why
is it "hot" for two sisters to do a sex duo as the two women of a threesome..or
a mother/daugther duo. Why do men think this is sexy? Why is this not seen as
incest? Do you, as a male, understand this? Can you help me to understand
it?

I appreciated his answer, which you can read by going to the post.

In addition, I would like to put the question out for comment. I am interested in hearing all perspectives, but especially the men and their observations/perspectives on this. I am also extremely interested in hearing from those lurkers who I know are out there and come here 'cuz, folks I see you on the statcounter. I would love to learn and would appreciate anyone helping me to understand it....

Thanks.
