Mountain and canyon friends watch the glow of fires from a few miles away, hoping the wind doesn't shift. Others have been clearing even more brush away and installing sprinkler systems in case new ones start. It's scary when the whole San Joaquin/Sacramento Valley is filled with so much smoke that it's worse than Los Angeles' smog. There were times on the drive down that I couldn't even see the Sierra Nevada foothills. Gotta say that in thirty two years of living in this state I've never seen this level of fires...and definitely not at this time of the year. And, we're told that there's a good chance that many of them won't be contained until late August/September....when our usual fire season begins.
