We always hear about “girls’ night out”, but there’s a new phenomenon: men’s adventures! Well, maybe it’s as old as history. According to Experience Life magazine, there are new travel programs where groups can rustle cattle in Texas, go to Alaska for fly-fishing, West Virginia for white-water rafting, etc. These healthy outdoor trips seem to be most popular with the under-35 crowd. Since men tend to bond by activities rather than talking, it’s a great way for them to make new friends. This is important, because according to a 2002 Harvard School of Public Health study, socially isolated men tend to develop heart disease and depression.
Beyond hunting - there are organizations out there that work with men on issues of positive masculinity and spirituality. There's one that I've heard of that looks spectacular - the Mankind Project: http://mkp.org/
