Thanks to Raw Food, UK Man Goes Without Sleep For 11 Days

Posted Oct 21 2008 12:42am

Could you go without sleep for a few days? What about 11 days?!

11 Days!

What if you prepared for staying awake just as one prepares for a marathon?

One man in the UK had quite the marathon of awakeness! Tony Wright set out to beat the former world record that was set way back in 1964. He prepared to beat the world record for staying awake consistently, and he accomplished his goal thanks to raw food.

This article from the BBC website mentions the fact he used raw food in preparation for this feat:

He said that his 'Stone Age' diet of raw food helped parts of his brain to stay awake and remain functional for long periods."

The Sydney Morning Herald had this to say about his raw food diet:

"During his effort, which came as part of his research into human sleep, Wright relied on a diet of fruit, salad, seeds and nuts to keep him awake."

Staying awake for 11 whole days is quite amazing.

If you would like more information about the amazing power of sleep, and learn more about the previous person with the record from 1964, Justin and I highly recommend William C. Dement's groundbreaking book entitled The Promise of Sleep. This book is so fascinating and so well written that you may loose sleep because you won't put it down. Dr. Dement would not be pleased with that, as he recommends a consistent sleep schedule. You'll have to read the book to learn more about Dr. Dement's work as a sleep researcher for Stanford, and his fascinating techniques on how to get a quality nights sleep.
