RAW FOOD PHILOSOPHIES

There are probably as many raw food philosophies/theories/focuses as there are raw foodists …. People will gravitate to one idea or another, and then, they will do what they please, or interpret as they please. This is part of the joy of being human.

What are s ome of the raw food philosophies, or focuses? (I say “some of” because, even if I could publish all of them, tomorrow someone would come up with a new one. I want this article to last for a while.)

EAT RAW - Many people just start to eat raw and eat whatever appeals to them, or whatever the know. This may be a beginner mode, or it may be a lifestyle choice.

ANN WIGMORE: follow natural hygiene/food combining concepts. Incorporates rejuvelac (fermented wheat sprout juice) and other fermented foods in a raw food diet. Ann Wigmore, Viktoras Kulvinskas, Brenda Cobb, Lillian Butler, Jim Carey/CreativeHealthInstitute.com

HIPPOCRATES INSTITUTE
: an outgrowth of Ann Wigmore’s original establishment, with significant change. to the original philosophy, including elimination of rejuvelac.

NATURAL HYGIENE: follow a specific regime involving specific combinations of foods, and restrictions of other foods in combination. Arnold Ehret, Dr. Norman Walker, Dr. Herbert Shelton, T.C. Fry and others

80/10/10- advocates strict observance of nutritional hygiene/food combining, and consumption of a diet composed of 80 percent carbohydrates, and restricting fat and protein to 10 percent of the diet each. Dr. Douglas Graham.

FRUITARIAN DIET: Fruitarians eat only fruit and vegetables which grow above ground. They eschew any root vegetables.

INTUITIVE DIET:Eat what seems right to you... This may include Ann Wigmore’s concepts, Doug Graham’s concepts, natural hygiene concepts, and others… The basic concept is that the eater will eat what seems appropriate raw-food-wise, or what appeals at the given moment, raw food-wise.

People coming into the raw food lifestyle may choose one or another philosophy, or may simply do what they can.

Most raw food recipe books avoid alignment with any group, and simply offer interesting and tasty recipes which may mimic popular cooked foods.
