Placenta Previa

Posted Sep 14 2009 10:51pm

Well, I had a lovely chat with my midwife today and we think that I may have placenta previa. I've been bleeding (with no pain and no cramping) during my pregnancy and this last one was super heavy and full of clots. When I say full... I really mean full. It didn't scare me, cause I feel very secure that these babies will be born... but it was annoying and a smidge daunting.

I am pleased that it's only two and a half days of bleeding compared to my normal period which is 7-10 days - so although I do appreciate that I'm bleeding way less - I still would love it if I wasn't bleeding at all. But... it is what it is!

I spent the time with my feet up and doing the 4 sessions in 4 days with my client. Great way to pass the time... doing Reiki and meditating. Oh bliss!!!

Anyway, I'll be doing a lighter work-out at yoga for the next week and simply taking it easy. No heavy lifting... no sex... lots of sitting, getting my magazine done and perhaps doing a bit of juicing with the assistance of my hubby.

I've also found that in the last week or two my eating has gone down. I'm eating way less and not really focused on what I should be eating. Making sure I'm getting all my nutrients. So after a long talk with Melissa (my raw food coach) on the phone today, we've decided to change up what I'm a doing a bit.

So for now on I'll be:

Waking - drinking 1/4 - 1/2 a litre of green smoothie
Going to yoga
Finishing my green smoothie on the way home

Drinking a litre of juice per day

Having a dish of fruit or salad with my soaked nut mixture on it (chia seeds, pumpkin, sunflower and pecan) and also an assortment of other nuts depending on the blend I put into the mason jar to soak.

Any other fruit I desire (since I have no desire to eat veggies at this time) - but if I do want veggies, I'll eat them as well.

Some evenings I'll be doing a second yoga class and if not, I'll be going for an hour walk. If the weather is not conducive to walking... then I'll be rebounding or doing Nia.

So... here's to getting back on track and focusing - once again - on what I'm eating.

This is my biggest challenge in this moment... focusing on what I'm eating. I'm such an intuitional eater and "go with the flow" eater that planning what I'm going to eat is a challenge and not one I embrace. Also the thought of juice and smoothies makes me want to vomit... I try to drink them but ... well ... I have to force them down. *not happy doing it* But as Melissa put it to me today... what I want doesn't matter... it's what the babies need that counts. So I'll suck it up and do what needs doing.

Thanks for listening... writing it down makes it more real for me. I promise to do my best and if all else fails... at least I'm eating raw! *sticks out tongue in defiance* Okay I feel better now *giggling*

My midwife is so wonderful. I absolutely love how supportive she is. I asked her what, if anything would be done if I do have placenta previa and she said nothing can be done. I can only take it easy and wait to see if it corrects itself. An ultrasound would be done now and another later to see if it's corrected itself so I decided to wait and just do the one later. That way we only have to have one. 90% of cases correct themselves so I'm not worried at all about this. It will be what it will be and I will deal with whatever needs dealing with period. I'm not going to worry over the future because who knows what it'll bring?

I was very pleased to learn (from my midwife today) that if we do have to do an ultrasound we can have a short one. We can ask them to only check where the placenta(s) is, to check for/confirm twins and to check their heart rate. We don't have to have a long ultrasound where they do all the measurements etc. So this pleases me to know I can have a short one IF we have to. *whew*

As for hearing the heart beat... I'm waiting for later in my pregnancy when it can be heard using a fetal scope instead of a doppler since a doppler uses ultrasound as well. I'm happy to wait... patience is a virtue I can always work on cause you don't know you have it unless you are using it!

I've been doing some research and will continue to do so. I love being empowered with knowledge... but I did learn lots from this site earlier today: Plecenta previa for those of you who may not know what this is.

So that's my little pregnancy update for today!

Love, light and fresh figs are gratefully accepted LOL
