100% Raw!
If you've paid any attention to the raw food world lately, not many people are recommending a 100% raw food diet anymore. In fact, most of them recommend 80% or more.
The definition of 100% raw has been thrown around, deconstructed and reconstructed in the last three years. Some believe in the purity of 100% raw. Such people claim: "If it has been heated over 118 degrees Fahrenheit, it is not raw." Others are not so picky. "Raw" nut butters and "raw" nuts at health food stores and co-ops are probably not 100% raw, but most raw fooders eat them. For example, most raw cashews have been cooked out of their shells.
What is the appeal of 100% raw foodism?
The answer is simple: it is a measurable goal.
Something to tell your confused friends or your parents. Something to believe in.
I am a firm believer that if you want to improve your health in any way, you must have a goal in mind or you will wander aimlessly. Your goal could be to lose a certain amount of weight, to clear up your skin, or to even feel a certain way.
It is my humble opinion that 100% raw foodism is something to strive for, not a goal to be achieved.
So what is my food goal?
My food goal is to always strive to reach 100% raw foodism. It is my hope that with this attitude, I will continually reach a higher and more sustainable level of health. I will not change this goal or reevaluate until it is proven to me, by my experience only, that I need some sort of cooked food in my diet. This is a process and a way of life for me.
But I bet your burning question is, will I be joining Heidi on Tuesday?
I support her goal and I intend to be as 100% raw as possible during her suggested time frame, but only for the sheer joy of it.
But if I eat a bean burrito, I won't cry.
