I know I’m a bit late getting out my message to kick off the new year. Forgive me, as I was busy shovelling myself out of snow banks, smothering my loved ones with kisses and generally having a quiet, peaceful and ridiculously pleasurable time. But the New Year is here now and I’m ready to get back at it and give my very best in the creation of what is to come. I thought you might appreciate knowing how I sat down to set my intentions for the new year.
Last night I sat on the phone with one of my dearest friends to set some of my intentions for 2013.
We didn’t talk about losing weight, eating better, exercising more often. We sat down to talk about the things we were going to do to make us feel more ALIVE as individuals–the things we were going to do for the planet, for our communities, for our families and, while it may be bold and idealistic, for the future of Life on Earth!
The endless pursuit of the next, best lip gloss can only satisfy for so long. Losing the last 10 pounds and finally getting a firmer belly, more money, a better set of shoes aren’t resolutions that will light the spark of my livingness at this stage in my life.
Feeling driven toward a life worth living, people worth loving and a better world worth building, I wanted to sit down and have the kind of conversation that would propel me into the new year feeling confident and inspired!
I thought you might appreciate seeing how I went about setting my intentions for 2013. I firmly believe that intention is senior to action and effort. That by creating a clear intention for what I want to create in 2013, I will immediately start to bring it into existence. This is a peek into my personal world, but I hope it helps inspire you to set your intentions in all areas of your life.
Spirit & Wisdom: The part of me that creates, that comes to life when I do what I love. The dream builder, the idea-generator, the life-loving firecracker that is ME and my relationship to the infinite.
The Physical Universe (aka “Stuff”): This includes all matter, energy, space and time. It’s where I want to live, how much money and wealthy I would like to create. It’s also how I manage my time and how I care for and appreciate the things I have.
Life & The Planet: This is the plants, the flowers, the trees and bees and all of life as it shows up in Nature. This is about the relationship I have with my environment and the responsibility I take for ensuring its well-being.
Humanity: What can I do in the interests of all humankind. What can I do that will consider the conditions of life on this planet for others and how can I contribute in some meaingful way to the bigger picture?
My Community: This is the people with whom I work, it’s also my friends and connections and acquaintances. How can I continue to build a business that supports the livelihood of other families and continue to surround myself with ethical, productive and powerful people whose passions and purposes are aligned with my own. It’s also my extended family and how I maintain my relationships with them.
Family & Intimacy: How will I shine this year as a mother to two amazing children and what other great adventures in love will transpire in the coming year? How will I open up more in my intimate relationship and learn to let go. Are babies in the future?
My Body & Health: This took a look at my relationship to myself. The degree of compassion I feel toward my wrinkles and dimples and wriggly parts. How I will continue to listen to my body and give it the best foods that I believe it needs based on what I observe and learn through trial and error. How will I continue to give my body the best of what it needs so that I can use it to make all my other dreams and intentions possible?
I can honestly say, in spite of how headlines try to infect the population with fear, worry and scarcity, I have never felt so inspired, hopeful, confident or determined about the future. I know who I am, I know where I want to go and I know what it’s going to take to get there. Most importantly, I am surrounded by amazing people and experiences who will help make it all possible. Above all things I invest my time in the projects and people that inspire me and give me more to hope for–more to believe in.
Whatever happens in 2013 for you, I expect boundless blessings to befall you! Stay true to who you are. Stick to your guns when intuition strikes, and never invalidate your perceptions. You are the only person who can truly take responsibility for your happiness and well-being.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”– Mark Twain
