Dr. Alejandro Junger on Meditation

Posted Sep 14 2008 1:31pm

Dr. Alejandro Junger is a live food friendly cardiologist as well as an adviser to Donna Karan's Urban Zen Initiative.

In May of 2007 we wrote about Dr. Alejandro Junger's appearance with Donna Karan on The Martha Stewart Show, and now we're here to bring you another clip from the highly intelligent and evolved doctor on stress and meditation:

Isn't Dr. Junger amazing? When I first saw him on The Martha Stewart Show last year I thought, "How does the universe setup the right juxtapositions to create a doctor who's as conscious as this?"

Well... recently I ready Dr. Junger's bio and got some insight into the experience that shaped his journey:

Dr. Alejandro Junger, was born and raised in Uruguay, He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at NYU Downtown Hospital in New York City. He accepted a fellowship in Cardiology at Lenox Hill Hospital, another NYU affiliated teaching Hospital, working and training for six years with some of the top doctors and scientists in the world. A search for alternatives to commonly prescribed anti-depressants lead Dr. Junger to explore the concept of meditation. After much exploration, he was initiated into an ancient tradition of Meditation. His initial experiences were so strong that after graduating as a cardiologist, he traveled to India, volunteering his work as a doctor in exchange for the opportunity to study meditation where this tradition was born. He stayed there for a year, directing a health clinic, coordinating the work of health practitioners from all over the world, treating up to 400 patients a day. There, he saw first hand the positive effects of meditation in individuals and groups of people. Back in the USA, he moved to Palm Springs and joined a busy cardiology practice with admission privileges in 4 hospitals, hoping to bring some of what he learned in India and integrate it to his medical practice. Today Dr Junger describes himself as an Open Minded doctor and works as the medical director of We Care Holistic Health Center in Desert Hot Springs. He also practices medicine in Los Angeles where he works closely with a doctor of Chinese Medicine and a chiropractic physician. In his practice he focuses in restoring the conditions that the body needs in order to heal, regenerate and even rejuvenate itself. This greatly done through nutrition and detoxification of the body as well as the mind and spirit.

Powerful!

I know we'll continue to hear great things from Dr. Alejandro Junger. He's on my list of people to meet in 2008, and of course that includes asking Dr. Junger to join us here on WLIR to share more of his insights.
