Breakthrough Bleeding

13 weeks pregnant

Breakthrough Bleeding... that's what it's called when you bleed at 4, 8 and 12 weeks pregnant. 30% of woman bleed during their pregnancy and bleeding during one pregnancy doesn't mean you'll bleed during your next pregnancy.

Breakthrough Bleeding

Some women experience what is known as ‘breakthrough bleeding’ at the times when your period would have normally been due. So this would be at 4, 8 and 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is often accompanied by the feeling that you would normally associate with your period being imminent i.e. back ache, cramps, a heavy sensation in your pelvis, feeling bloated and 'off'. Of course the period doesn't arrive (even though you feel like it will) because you are actually pregnant! During pregnancy, hormones prevent your period from occurring. Sometimes the hormone levels are not yet high enough to stop your period and therefore you have this breakthrough bleeding. It can last for around three months – after this time the placenta begins to take over hormone production from your ovaries. Some women may experience breakthrough bleeding throughout the whole pregnancy and have healthy babies, under the close watch of their carer.

I have had breakthrough bleeding during this pregnancy. I don't have any cramping and know my babe is totally fine, but it is a little upsetting to bleed. Mainly because I feel kinda ripped off. I want my period to stop for 9 months... especially since it always returns right away after giving birth. So it seems that this time around I'm not getting a break... although I'm hopeful that I won't continue to bleed in the weeks to come.

I'm at the 13 week mark and feeling GREAT. I've had no morning sickness, no major discomfort other than while I'm sleeping. Trying to stay on my side and not sleeping on my back is a bit of a challenge... but slowly my body is sleeping less and less on my back.

My number one symptom of being pregnant is how tired I am. I am soooo sleepy. I'm getting so much exercise which pleases me greatly. I do yoga for 90 minutes in the morning and then go for one or two big walks... and often do a little rebounding in the evening as well. So I'm not lacking in that department. I am very tired though and am often in bed by 8pm. (It's 9pm now and I'm super tired.)

My second symptom of being pregnant is acne. I have gotten acne with every one of my pregnancies and this one isn't any different. I hoped that being raw would allow me to skip this one but alas... that's not the case. I haven't had any acne since I went raw so having it back again (I had horrid acne before I went raw) ... isn't a great thing but having this babe is worth it.

Other than that... I really don't have any symptoms. I feel great!

I'm off to bed... have a lovely evening everyone!

love and light,
Aleesha (and Petal)
