I missed a day.
I should have had this done much earlier yesterday, but destiny had something else in place for us. When I came here to write it, I couldn’t get my eyes to stay open long enough to make it happen. I think it might have something to do with the amount of fresh air and exercise I worked in yesterday. However, it does make for a skipped day and *gulp* I’m going to do something about that.
I told you that life pulled the rug out from under me this week. I wasn’t joking. It was huge. The kinda thing that probably only happens a few times in your life–the kind of situation that causes you to COMPLETELY restructure the way you look at life and living it. It’s big. I want to say a bit about it, but first… detox talk, Baby.
As you know we’re moving into the second stage of our detox now–the elimination of allergenic foods.
We’ve been talking a lot about the foods that should be avoided, but let’s turn the tables now and talk about the foods we should focus on. Those of you who have been following along with the menu planners know all kinds of ideas and suggestions that we’ve made for meals. If you’re doing this by following along on the blog, then you might be looking for a bit more clarity. As we move into the second stage of this detox, the focus is going to be on VARIETY and ROTATION. We want to avoid eating the same thing every day and do a lot more rotation in order to avoid sensitivities.
Here are the foods for us to concentrate on:
Try to include sweet fruits in your meals throughout the day! If you’re doing the Green Smoothie Challenge, this will be easy. Simple fruit smoothies, a fruit salad, or just fresh fruit as a snack when you’re hungry will do the trick. Just think of all the gorgeous colors available in fruit! Now that spring is here, the fun is just beginning again! Remember to rotate the kinds of fruit you eat and don’t forget that dried fruit can be used on occasion, too, sometimes!
The more the merrier! Eat a big bunch of dark, leafy, green vegetables every day in a salad, a smoothie or a green juice. If you’re doing our Green Smoothie Challenge, then you win AGAIN! When getting used to an increased amount and variety of greens in your diet, try to keep things simple and if you need ideas, then you can find a lot of them here on the Green Smoothie Blog.
Remember the wild foods and snacks we can have in the summer are the best foods you could possibly eat and I strongly encourage you to check out your free back alley snacking opportunities by doing a bit of research online about edible greens in your area.
As you get more adventurous, think outside of the box with your greens and include parsley, cilantro, red mustard, the chards (red, green, rainbow), the kales (green, red, black/dinosaur), rappini, kohlrabi, endive, radish greens, turnip and beet greens, collards, and wild greens like dandelion lambsquarters, clover, etc.
Nuts and Seeds
They say that 2-4 Tablespoons per day is enough and that it is best to eat these foods with other fruit and veg at the same time. Sprinkle them on salads, smoothies, etc. but try to avoid eating things like train mix as it’s very easy to overeat this kind of thing. Limit your variety during the day, but rotate them throughout the week/month.
Avoid buying nut butters that have already been ground as these have a much high possibility of becoming rancid. it’s better if nuts are raw, organic and unprocessed.
Gotta get your veggies! These are the minerals in your diet and the most valuable ones to include (since we’ve already mentioned the benefits of greens) will be cruciferous veggies. Try and include some crucifers in your diet every day. These are things like cauliflower, , bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, mustard greens and collard. Kale, Brussel sprouts, and the greens of cabbage, turnips and rutabagas, too! You can steam them slightly or include them chopped in salads, used to make green juices, green smoothies, green soups, you name it!
You can include things like rice, quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth, teff, millet and legumes like lentils and garbanzos in your diet a few times a week. They’re a great source of carbohydrate without the sugar of fruits and without leading into the excess fat that sometimes happens when people try to avoid eating too much fruit. They are not as nutritionally dense as the other above mentioned foods, but they will not conflict or compromise the state of detox that we’ve trying to promote for the body in the weeks to come!
Fresh Air, Sunshine and Exercise
These are last but far from least important! Remember that we’ve called this the “Don’t Be So Obsessed About What You Eat” Detox. Please don’t think that food is the only solution, here. YES! We’re going to do everything we can to clean up the diet in the weeks to come, but remember the importance of exercise and perspiration in eliminating toxins from the body! Just imagine all those nasty toxins I eliminate when I’m going to my hot yoga class for an hour and a half.
Okay, so that’s the scoop, Sugarplum! Now you know what you shouldn’t be eating and all the thing you can be eating.
Here’s the deal… we have TWO MORE DAYS until we hit Day 31. That will mean we’re officially in stage two. Now, at the beginning of this email, I said I would tell you about what I’m going to do about having skipped a day.
So here it is:
As you know it’s the start of a new week, and if I hadn’t kept passing out at my computer, I’d have reported how I did on my commitments this last week and fessed up for my plans this coming week. Unfortunately, rug pulling doesn’t happen every day, so I botched my commitments and even *sniffle* sadly missed one day of my 90 day blogging spree.
So, today is Monday, Spring is definitely in the air and it’s Commitment time again, Darling. I’ve got juuuuuuust the thing to up the ante and get you participating around here.
First, today’s them song: CLICK HERE! Then come back! (Mom, look at her shirt! ;-))
Change is in the air…
It’s not every day life pulls the rug out from under a person. If I hadn’t learned to grow wings over the last few years I might not have been able to come out of this one as gracefully as I am… but since I did, it’s time for some fun!
Time for renewed commitments to myself and to the things and people I believe in.
But sit back, Sister, because you’re coming along for the ride and here’s what it’s going to look like:
I’m Coming OUT!
And You Are Coming With Me!!
***NEW PARTICIPATION INCENTIVE: $$ Diva Dollars $$***
I embarked on this 90-day detox hoping to get rid of some puffy ankles and constipation, and it’s detoxing my relationships, my values and even the way I see the world!
I was even notified this week that I have to MOVE! Everything is changing, and I’m sure it’s all for the better, but WHOOOA what a ride! I’ve got some exciting things planned for us, Sugarplum.
Really exciting stuff and it’s all about ME and about YOU and about the things and people we believe in and how to make those BIGGER, BETTER and STRONGER! It’s about how to light the world on fire with who we are and how we play the game. But I am NOT going to do this on my own, Darlin’. I’m going to need your help and active participation, and I’ll use whatever clever means I have to in order to make that happen!
I’ve not failed to notice that whenever I bribe you with recipes, you post on the blog. I love it, and everyone else loves it, too. You don’t need to leave a mission statement if you don’t want to, but we love all declarations of glee, confessionals, testimonials, and even just a friendly word or two telling us what you think is GREAT and it seriously makes all the difference in perking me up to deliver some sassy content on the blog, that’s for sure.
Can you imagine if you poured your guts out on the blog every day and all you got was “No Comment”.
So no more of that. We’re going to IGNITE a fire under this blog and start a Divalution that gets things rocking around here. I made a commitment to post here EVERY day for 90 days and yesterday when I passed out drooling on my keyboard at the end of the day, I missed my first day. A slip. Buuut, let’s turn it into a positive by STRENGTHENING the commitment.
What if YOU committed, too?
What if YOU made a commitment to check in here daily as your point of accountability and support. What if I gave you a juicy incentive to make that happen?
I have some AMAZING programs coming down the pipes and I’ve just freed up 20 hours a WEEK for myself to start working on them, so WATCH OUT, Girlfriend!! While I can’t guarantee how much these programs will cost yet, I can say that for every day you post on this blog for the remainder of our 90-day detox, I’ll give you a shiny, sparkly diva dollar that you can use toward the purchase of one of our programs. (Boys get double diva dollars for the sheer act of bravery it would take on their part to post on a diva blog! No faking boys names, ladies!!)
At the end of the 90 day program, if you’ve done a whole lot of posting during this live 90-day detox, then you’re going to have $ diva dollars $ to use to purchase future programs and services. (Qualifier: This only counts for our electronic programs. It doesn’t count toward things we have to ship or that cost us money to produce. That would finish me and I’d have to get a day job!)
And if you want recipes, too, well, you’ll get ‘em, Girlfriend. I really need you to know that your contributions on the blog seriously make ALL THE DIFFERENCE in giving me the oompapa oomp! I need to get through the day and make these posts SPARKLE! I like this technique, because the more you post, the more you benefit. And if you miss a day, well, you’re not really punished for it. There’s just an incentive for being a part of the action and it’s only going to take you a minute or two.
How does that sound, Sunshine? I promise to try and leave a dangling question, something to respond to… something to think about. (We’re going to be doing some t-shirt slogan competitions around here, too, so start getting those wheels turning upstairs and think! think! thinking about great ideas for diva tees. T-shirts that make people think and grab attention in a positive way!)
So that’s where I am.
Now, it’s time to make my commitment for the week.
I’m keeping it simple for myself, since I feel like I’ve got some major restructuring to do for myself personally, my biggest stated commitment is to get myself to yoga as often as I can this week! Sorry. Simple, but satisfying.
Instead of a Success Story, I couldn’t resist putting the lyrics to today’s Theme Song:
Now, my dear! This is the part where I tell you how much I appreciate all the love and support you give that helps make this place the thriving community it is. Even if there aren’t always comments on here, there are tens of thousands of us, now, all over the world doing our diva thang and making the world a more beautiful place to be.
And I couldn’t do any of this without you, so thanks.
Alright, my lovelies. Here’s to turning up the volume! Here’s to tightening up the strings on the next stage of the detox and tightening up our commitments to ourselves and each other! Go girl! What’s YOUR commitment for this week and what do you have to share with the world?
You’re absolutely beautiful! So now CLICK THIS LINK, put the chair to the side of your room and let this song move through you and get that body movin’, Girlfriend! You know you’ve got it!!
Only good things can come to us now! Watch for them!
