58. Improved Sleep

Posted Aug 26 2008 12:56pm

This is #58 which means I've got just two more nights with my intuitive eating hypnosis CD. I went through a funny phase mid-way through these 30 days where I was missing my first CD, Clearing Emotional Blocks. It was like an old friend I wanted to spend more time with. How funny! And now I find myself preparing to say good-bye (for now) to the intuitive eating one.

The advice on the CD says to listen to each one, one at a time, every night upon falling asleep, for 30 days. I don't know the science behind that, but I am blindly falling it since I trust my source. When I first listened to the original CD, I had some really powerful experiences with lucid dreaming, emotional release (tears, tears, tears), and soul travel (where you consciously fly around in your dreams and can seek out particular interactions and experiences).

After a few days, it changed to simple and deep relaxation and has pretty much stayed there. I love the idea that the succinct and self-affirming messages are playing in my brain, while at the same time I feel great relaxation.

Sleep was an issue before I started this. I decided to tackle it from several directions.

1. First of all, good sleep is earned by an active day, so I started working out 5x week. (Applause.)

2. Sleep has a rhythm, so I started making myself go to be by a certain time, despite my very strong urges to stay up much later.

3. Sleep is a time of relaxation and rejuvenation, so I committed to listening to my hypnosis (relaxation) CD every single night, to provide my thoughts with the calm they seemed to be lacking.

4. I transitioned my diet away from foods that are hard on the digestion, eventually landing in a raw food diet. Raw foods come with their digestive enzymes intact which makes it simple for the body. Cooked foods do not have active digestive enzymes and therefore demand the body use the metabolic enzymes from its reserves to digest the food. You don't want your body working on intense digestion when you're sleeping.

This combination of efforts worked together to get me sleeping well again. (Applause.) I have also stopped waking up feeling fuzzy-headed. That was driving me nuts before I started all this. I felt like my head was bloated and I couldn't get a clear thought, sometimes for the entire day. Now, awake is awake. No grogginess. And clear thinking is the norm. (Applause.)

I'm really looking forward to the possibility that I could be one of those people who requires only 3-6 hours sleep a night, when I'm further along into this. Right now, weight loss is the main healing taking place, and that does seem to take some sleep to achieve. When I'm at my natural body weight, I'm guessing my need for sleep will seriously decrease. (Applause.)

So far I'm staying clear of the Christmas Food Demons, happy with my juices, green smoothies, salads, and some dried fruit and nuts. Last Christmas marked the most painful stomach ache I've ever had. This year can only be better.
