One of my favorite authors, Mark Twain, said it best: "Quitting smoking is easy. I've done it hundreds of times!" I've been an on and off smoker for over ten years, and believe me, I can relate. One thing I found out about a few months ago is that it is medically proven that the best time for a woman to quit smoking is the week immediately after her period. I know it sounds weird, but if you think about it, your stress and hormone levels will be much lower then, and that can help during those first 2-3 days of peak withdrawl symptoms. From there on out, it is willpower and breaking a habit. I'm right there with you, Cindy. I'm still trying to quit too! Good luck!
I would agree that exercise (after you've cleared this with your doctor) is the best way to reduce the stress of quitting. I quit in Sept 07 and my doctor still isn't allowing me to exercise yet, he wants me quit for 12 months and then he'll set me up on an exercise regime.
Self-determination and confidence is what it needs to quit smoking!

About 2 years ago I took a 40 minutes run on a nearby trail at 5.30am in the morning. (this was not a regular thing for me.. I used to run perhaps 2-3 times a month) So I was EXHAUSTED by the time I got back to my car after 40 mins of running. A minute later I lighted up a sigarette. Within 30-40 seconds of smoking I felt so sick from the smoke that I couldnt touch sigarettes for another week or so...
I suppose this "early morning" workout technique would be very effective for me to quit smoking for good... It's kind of not just that I know that smoking is bad, but I can FEEL and EXPERIENCE this crazy and nasty sickness caused by post-workout smoking...
