Dangers of Smoking While Pregnant

If you are smoking while you are pregnant you could be putting your baby at risk. You can suffer some adverse affects from smoking during pregnancy, during birth and even well after. It’s unfortunate to note that many women won’t quite as soon as they discover pregnancy. The benefits of quitting for both you are your baby are tremendous. You will have much easier time succeeding with a good support team.

Did you know that all of the tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide you inhale is being transferred to your baby. You might not realize that your second hand smoke will damage your baby’s lungs in some harsh ways. Complications are likely when lung damage has been caused. Your baby needs oxygen to live and develop properly.

Low birth weight is known as a common issue when mom has smoked throughout the pregnancy this issue has also been known to cause other complications for the baby. This complication is noted in more than 20 percent of all births nationwide. Smoking during pregnancy is also known to cause preterm labor in some women. A particularly sad statistic is that around 10 percent of all infant mortalities can be linked to a mother who smoked during pregnancy. Even the ALA agrees with this statistic.

You will see there are many other risks too that are associated with smoking while pregnant. Smoking while pregnant has been shown to contribute to the enormous amount of sudden death cases in infants.

The consequences of smoking while pregnant are terrible there is no getting around that. Where your child is concerned you aren’t giving them a fighting chance if you are smoking during pregnancy. Your breast milk is also affected adversely by nicotine so avoid smoking after pregnancy too. The decision to quit is up to you if you are smoking and pregnant get the facts and finally quit. Ask your doctor for help.
