I had my first baby in March. Everything went well with exception of very low blood pressure and almost a stop to labor after the epidural, but in end was well! The guy giving me the eipdural gave it to me DURING a contraction which was not appreciated. He asked me if a pain went down one side or another and I couldn't answer him right away because I was in pain from the contraction. Finally, I did notice (after his urgent persistance) a bit of a shooting pain down the left leg. The eipdural REALLY HURT A LOT also - WAY more than the contractions from active labor. I wasn't expecting that, but didn't think much of it either. Well, since then, I've had periodic pain in my left leg since then in the same spot (it was consistant for a number of months right after delivery then less consistant). But, also since then a section of my left thumb has gone numb (100% of the time now) and my left arm and shoulder go numb when I fall asleep on my back (my preferred sleeping position). I was trying to find information on the web about nerve damage from epidurals, but everything says it's rare so they don't go into much detail. One thing I found was that if an epidural hurts, then it is a good indication of nerve damage?!?! I just thought it was normal to hurt until I read that. Is it possible that I have nerve damage caused by the epidural needle? If so, is it something that I just have to deal with? Will it heal or is it possible that it could get worse? Thanks!
