Small Business Saturday: Shop Small!

Posted Nov 24 2012 12:30pm

Small Business Saturday

Black Friday got a LOT of hype this year. And, in one of those prouder moments of American consumerism, we had (again) near-riots over TVs and stereos and other such items at the various Big Box Stores. I’ll admit: I was out there too, but well after the bumrushing doorbuster crowds. I decided to spend the day scoping out all the pretty things at IKEA and gathering more ideas to our ever growing list of items for the knish at Babies R Us.

But today?

Today it’s time to take my purchasing power to my community. I’m here in NJ today, home with my family for Thanksgiving. And even though I’d love to spend my dollars today in Salem, I can still support the small businesses of my hometown community.

Today, in the spirit of Small Business Saturday, I challenge you do to the same. Even if it’s as simple as grabbing a bite to eat. You could make a quick run to the McDonald’s… or you could hit up that local diner or brunch spot. Didn’t finish your holiday shopping yesterday? What locally-owned store could you buy from today instead of the Target or Walmart down the street?

I know that in some communities, mom and pop stores have all but vanished. There’s still a fantastic way for you to get in on the spirit of Small Business Saturday, even if it seems there aren’t many small businesses you could patron in your town: online.

Think of your fellow bloggers and how many of us have virtual, online stores and Etsy shops. Today is the perfect day to reach out to the virtual community and #ShopSmall!

In the spirit of Small Business Saturday, if you have a small business with a virtual storefront, please link up in the comments below! I hope you’ll click through and support these Small Businesses throughout the virtual community today.

And of course, I couldn’t wrap up this Small Business Saturday post without makin’ a shoutout to two small businesses of my own :)

In support of Small Business Saturday, all purchases made at The Infertility Voice Shop made by 11:59pm EDT tonight will receive a special bonus! Whether it’s my eBooks or any Circle+Bloom product , every purchase made by 11:59pm EDT will receive a copy of 30 Days of Awesomesauce – a bonus, 30-day journaling companion to THE YOU PROJECT. This bonus includes 30 days of soul-searchin’, deep-diggin’, perspective-renewin’ prompts that would be perfect to carry you right into the New Year!

As another bonus, enter code “Holiday35″ during checkout to receive 35% off ALL Circle+Bloom products! Y’all know how much I loved their Donor Egg for the Hopeful Parent program. The only reason I even include Circle+Bloom products here in my store is because of how much I stand by them and believe in the integrity of their products. So if you’ve been hesitating to try out their incredible mind/body programs, why not get them at 35% and support some small, women-owned businesses in the process? :)
