Scissors and Serenity, Newry

Posted Aug 26 2008 5:02pm

Scissors and Serenity in Newry, Co Down is well-named. I've been going there for the last few months to get my bi-monthly colour and cut and the place is positively teeming with happy, attentive staff. The coffee alone is worth the visit and, unlike most hairdressers, you get offered more than one cup during a visit! I had two of the best cappuccinos I've had in a long time during my visit... and I was offered at least another two!

Today the owner, a very lovely young woman named Catriona was telling me about a new hair product they're offering. It's called Yuko and is a Japanese hair straightening product which guarantees beautifully sleek, straight hair for up to a year or more. All it requires after treatment is blow-drying, cutting out the need for straighteners. I'm very tempted because I use my GHD's almost every day (I absolutely adore them but, rushing out to leave the children to school every morning, they are a part of the morning routine I'd love to be able to do without!)

Yuko treatment doesn't come cheaply; it's fairly expensive at around £300-£350 but, as Catriona pointed out, with many women having a wash and blowdry every week it can work out a bargain in the long term. Unfortunately I can't use that excuse to justify spending so much money on my hair as I don't even spend that much on hair treatments in an entire year... but I'd love to hear from anyone who has had it done - how was it for you?! (I'm a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding next summer, so I'm thinking that might just be a good enough excuse ;))

Anyway, now that I'm back home, surrounded by noisy squealing children it's amazing how relaxed I feel. It really is nice to get out for a treat once in a while... I think I'll start booking in with Catriona and her team more often!
