Panda Cherry Flavoured Licorice - Yummy, Healthy and Lots of Fun Too!

Posted Mar 08 2010 12:00am

Panda Cherry Flavoured Licorice  Yum Yum - two words that certainly apply to Panda Cherry Flavoured Licorice , a natural product I was fortunate to receive in the post this week for review! As something of a licorice fiend, I'll happily admit I was more than a little bit keen to dig in. :)

Now, I was a bit cautious about trying the cherry flavour as I absolutely adore traditional licorice flavoured licorice! However, I must admit it was surprisingly tasty, albeit a little bit different from the norm. It smells sort of like marzipan (that must be the cherries!) and is softer in texture than the black stuff but it is very, very moreish, to use my 10 year old daughter's expression!

Speaking of my daughter, like me, Tara too loves licorice, and when she arrived home after school and spied the bag on the worktop her expression became somewhat maniacal!

After teasing her a little bit, telling her it was "mine, all mine", I eventually relented and let her share some with me. Her opinion: "I love it!"

Next I offered some to her younger brother and sister and they too enjoyed it, although Sarah who's 6 found just one piece enough whilst Jack, who's 4 came back several times for seconds...

Hubby sneaked a few. I'll confide now that I was trying to keep it hidden from him because he's just greedy when it comes to anything sweet in the house! Again, the feedback was that it was very nice indeed!

Now, what's so special about Panda Licorice that I agreed to review it for this site?

Well, what sold it for me (aside from its yumminess) is that in these days when almost everything we eat is packed full of all sorts of artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, Panda Licorice is fat free, contains no preservatives, and is coloured and flavoured with only natural products. It also contains just four main ingredients: molasses syrup, wheat flour, licorice extract and real cherry puree.

Although I don't have a particularly sweet tooth my children certainly do and like many mums, I'm always on the lookout for treats that don't have too much junk in them but which they still enjoy. Panda Licorice fits the bill perfectly.

It's also a fun food as my son discovered - he likes to blow air through the little "pipes" that run down the centre of each traditionally cooked sweet!

Licorice in itself is also known to have a number of health benefits including relaxing the body and reducing stress  - so it won't cause the kids to go into overdrive, which is always a good thing!

If you want to try it for yourself, you can buy it in many health food stores and in a lot of supermarkets too. I highly recommend it and know it'll definitely be on my shopping list next time I head into town.

To find out more about Panda Licorice, or to purchase it online visit The Land of Licorice . There's even a chance for you to win an iPod Touch if you send them a funny picture of someone eating the product!
