Our Anniversary Road Trip Type Thing

Posted Sep 14 2009 10:12pm
The husband and I did more things in one day without children than we do in 6 months with them. Seriously. For our anniversary (yeah, this post is a couple of weeks late. See what happens when you have possession of your children 24 hours a day?) we trekked all over the state of New Jersey, doing stuff.

We got the kids up, dressed and fed. We then tossed them at my mother and ran out of the house like we stole something for fear that we would never escape. A quick stop at Dunkin Donuts for coffee and bagels and we were on our way.

We drove about a hour south and went to Historic Smithville. We wandered around the shopping village and found a store called Cooks Corner. I found some flavored coffees (Pumpkin Spice and Dutch Chocolate) and the husband got himself some (manly) teas. We also found, but did not buy, a Redneck Windchime, which I found hilarious.

We then drove the 15 minutes or so to Atlantic City. We got completely lost in the Borgata trying to find Fatburger (which I talk about here ). Once full, we decide to throw a couple of quarters into the slot machines on our way to find the parking garage. Slot machines no longer take quarters (I'm so totally a gambler). I put a dollar into a machine only to find that the machines don't take anything smaller than a five. No, that's not true. They will completely take your dollar and then pretend like you didn't insert any money and you do not complain because you look like a tool who can't work a slot machine while all the old ladies off the buses aren't having any problem at all. Yeah. So we each put $10 into the machines. We each walked out $10 poorer. But, having spent our $20, we no longer had any cash on us. And the parking attendant doesn't take debit cards. So she let us leave for free. $5 saved. (unless we get some sort of notice in the mail)

We had to go to a 7-11 because we had no cash (we plan real well) to park in the public boardwalk lot. We went and spent an hour or so in Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum (which I talk about here ). And then hop back in the car to drive 45 minutes to Checkers (which I talk about here ).

We make our way to our town and head over to the movie theater. This is when we show how dorky we really are. We get our tickets to Halloween 2 and watch said movie. Then we get our tickets to The Final Destination and watch that movie. THEN we get our tickets to Inglourious Basterds and watch that movie.

Visual proof of our idea of fun.

Also, me in 3-D glasses. Hot, right?

And finally, the strange card left on our car while we lived at the movie theater for 8 hours.

After being gone for 16 hours, we came home to find all the children asleep. They stayed that way until after 9am. That alone made my anniversary.
