New Restaurants: August 2009

Posted Sep 01 2009 10:35pm
For the first month of my 1001 Days Project, I visited 3 new to me restaurants. I use the term restaurant to describe any eating establishment. This includes fast food restaurants.

I had the Ahi Tuna Sashimi as an appetizer, the Imperial Longfin as my entree and the Creme Brulee for dessert.

The Ahi was great, cooked perfectly and with more than enough wasabi on the side to satisy my bizarre wasabi obsession. The half order was just enough for the husband and myself.

The Longfin was good. The fish itself wasn't anything mindblowing, but the stuffing of shrimp, scallops and crabmeat made the whole dish.

The Creme Brulee was perfect, but huge. I tried to force myself to finish it, because hell, it was Creme Brulee. I got about 3/4 of the way through it and had to quit. I should have shared, but the husband doesn't like it.

The prices were average for a meal of this type in this area. I now understand why there are always so many people waiting outside every weekend. Will definitely return.

I had a medium Fatburber with cheese (no mustard or relish) and an order of Chili Cheese Skinny Fries.

The burger was amazing. Seriously, I have never had a fast food burger like it. The meat was not frozen and thick and the toppings all seemed to be fresh.

The chili cheese fries were not so good. The cheese was fresh, where I like my cheese to be in sauce form on my fries. I don't especially like chili, so I'm not sure why I ordered it. The husband split them with me and said that the chili tasted like canned chili. I'll have to take his word for it.

I would be having another one of these burgers right this second if the closest Fatburger wasn't well over an hour away. They are supposed to be opening one 40 minutes away, so I may have to make the drive when the time comes.

I had a Checkerburger with cheese and the seasoned fries.

The burger was nothing special. It was decent enough for fast food, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one.

The fries started out very good, all warm and greasy and peppery. After a handful or two they seemed a little too greasy and a little too peppery. I'd be willing to have them again someday, but I'd definitely order a small.

I don't think I'll be returning to Checkers. The food wasn't atrocious, but it wasn't as good as Burger King or McDonald's, both of which are much closer to home.
