We began the girls actual birthday this morning with an American birthday tradition we started for our German family a couple of years ago: Pancake breakfast. The girls opened presents and had a great time playing with new toys and their cousins. Both of the girls are still feeling under the weather (especially Amaya), so they are taking a much needed nap right now, after which we'll continue our celebrations German-sytle with a traditional "Kaffee und Kuchen" (coffee and cake) mid-afternoon with family and friends.
The absolute highlight of the girls' birthday weekend, however, was the birth of their newest cousin, Jaron, last night. The girls would have loved to share their birthday with him, but he decided to claim his own birthday by politely arriving just before midnight on May 3rd! You'll see my sister (and her family) in the pictures above at the playland ... and yes, Jaron was born that night!!
Other highlights from this past week included - Bjorn preaching at 3 services on Sunday morning (including the village "state" church, where I grew up)
- Me sneaking away for some shopping with my mom
- Watching the may pole being set up for the village May Day celebration (Bjorn and Amaya got to watch, Mommy stayed home snuggling sick Liana)
- The girls caught sniffles and fevers from their cousins, so we cancelled some plans and laid low for a couple of days mid-weeks
- Snuggling new baby Jaron for the first time!
We just have a few days left here before embarking on our return trip next week. If all goes well, we should be home by late Wednesday evening!
