Doula Means Support During Childbirth

Posted Jun 21 2010 6:53pm
Having doula support during childbirth may reduce the need for pain medications and the use of forceps or vacuum extraction and lowers your risk of an emergency c-section. In the event of a complication, a birth doula helps you understand the available alternatives to a medical intervention, providing security and confidence during childbirth. Doulas are an objective,
reassuring presence during labor.

The role of a birth doula is defined by the laboring woman and her birth partner. Each labor is unique and a doula adapts to the changing needs of the family who has hired her. Doulas offer continuous one-on-one care and provide a variety of helpful positions and comfort measures, which can result in a shorter labor with fewer complications.

As a birth doula, I am honored to support expectant mothers and their partners, and help create a positive birth experience. Although, a doula does not provide clinical assistance, I have studied birth physiology and feel confident that I am sympathetic to the needs of a laboring woman. To learn specifically about the services I offer, please visit my website at www.anatlantadoula.com. For Atlanta residents, I offer a free consultation with no obligation. Happy Birthing!
