One of the gastrointestinal problems that is commonly associated with pregnancy is constipation. To different people, constipation may mean differently. Some people feel as though they have to strain during a bowel movement, or they are bloated or passing pebble-like stools.
Constipation is also common in the days after delivering a baby. If a woman who has an episiotomy constipation, having a bowel movement can be very painful and she may unconsciously hold on her stool. The bowel can be temporarily paralyzed after cesarean section delivery.
