Catching up

Posted Oct 14 2009 10:02pm
If I left you a note on your blog to check my latest blog post, I lied - check the next one :) Sorry, had extra time to catch up today so I posted TWICE! I know, record right?!

Usually I'm not a fan of Lilypie ticker things, but always use them since they are so easy! Lastely, I noticed they expanded and have more options. So my Connor is chugging along and there's no sitting or crawling for this chunky monkey, he wants to stand all the time! Brennan is definitely my monkey son, never stopping, and loves his 'banas.' The background reminded me of Scurry George (Curious George), which is his favorite show. Ella is extremely into arts and crafts, she could seriously spend all day coloring and if she's outside you can most definitely find her on her bike!

Things have been going great. Although, we had a few rough weeks with Bren going through a hitting phase and using his favorite word (no) like every other word, I think we're on the upswing of that battle. Of course we've started a new battle with spitting. Wonderful. 2 little guys we see quite a bit have shed some excitement on this naughty little habit and Bren was quick to pick it up. Bren visited our new doctor for his 2 year check up yesterday. I'm so thankful to have an excellent doctor and wish we would have had her in the first place! Bren's circumcision never quite looked right and I asked at almost every visit and our doctor assured me it was normal, yeah it's not normal and he has to see a urologist and will most definitely need another surgery to fix some of the adhesions. (PS - you can save all the "we're awful parents for circumcising our son arguments" it's not like you are going to change our opinion or even that your opinion matters to Jacob & my choices as parents.) I also had Bren to the old doctor twice for a lump under his upper eye lid and he assured me both times (2 weeks apart) that it was normal inflamation. Yeah, it's also not normal and the kid had to see an eye specialist. Our doctor didn't speculate on what it was or what treatment would be necessary. Bren also got to have a blood draw done from his arm, (not pleasant at all), but we're having him checked for celiacs disease as he is symptomatic in a few areas. I'm praying things come back normal, but grateful to be getting a possible diagnosis this early to help prevent some of the painful and dangerous affects of the disease.

Connor is doing great. Weighing in at a whopping 18 pounds he is a healthy boy. Meeting all the markers for growth and development that a 4 month old should be meeting. He is the happiest baby - check out our flickr page - the kids is ALWAYS smiling! Even when he's been fussy I can just look at him and within seconds of making eye contact this huge contagious smile grows across his face. I can't get enough of it. The nurses were googling over him and even called in other nurses to come check out the smiley baby! :)

Ella is also doing wonderful. She's really blossoming in preschool and coming out of her little shell. For the first time ever she actually talked to her teacher last year. Her teacher was so excited to tell me and she said she wasn't sure who was more shocked herself or Ella! She's also an excellent little Cubby clubber. She loves memorizing scripture and her thoughts and comments on things are so humbling. Being privilege to witness such childlike faith is one of the most amazing blessings I've had as a parent. She's following in mommy's footsteps and loves to teach her brothers. It's great - she actually has a teaching stool and makes Bren sit in front of her and sing songs, do the alphabet, read the Bible - tons of cutesy preschool type things! When I told her I was a teacher she said, "No you're my mommy." Right Miss Ella :)

I struggled for so long to be content and happy as a stay at home mom and in all my other roles and I am finally there. Although we don't live like wealthy super stars and don't drive the sweetest cars and whatever else I ever imagined would make me happy, I am totally satisfied. I think I discovered that there's no person or thing other then my God who can do that. I love digging into the Word every morning and no matter how many times I've read a certain scripture it's new to me every time. I'm so grateful for the answered prayer that I'm serving where I need to be serving at our church. I doubted what I was doing, but in the past 6 weeks God has used me to help lead 5 kids to Christ and it is the most humbling experiences ever. Prayer is so powerful and I have grown more from being with these kids then I think they have grown from my teaching/leading. I love that we have a church that has such great opportunities to serve. I love looking back on my life, even the not so good times, and being able to see how God has carefully constructed every little detail to help bring me to where I am today. As much as I dislike change I know I have to be open to it every day and willing to let God work through me. I pray every day that my kids will see Jesus in me and want a relationship with Him that much more themselves. Ultimately, we all stand alone before Him and I want my kids to be confident that Jesus is going to welcome them to heaven with open arms not because of who their Mom & Dad were, but who they are!

I'm excited to find a time to have a little date night with Jacob and have him help me plan out my awesome business idea. I don't think I'll be returning to the classroom, except Sundays & Tuesdays of course. I am excited to put this into motion and see where it goes. More details to come later!
