Can having a thyroidectomy effect your menstrual cycle?

We want to start trying for a baby, but since having my thyroid surgery 4 weeks ago, I am now 6 days late for my period and having negative pregnancy tests. I'm confused because no one has mentioned that my cycle could be effected.
