The poor baby. She's had a cough for several days now. I had called the
pedi about it on Tuesday, but since it was just a dry cough then and she didn't have any other symptoms, the doctor told me to just keep an eye on her. Well, by today, we were definitely noticing some wheezing and rattling in her lungs, so it was time to take her in. She has
bronchiolitis, a viral lung infection very common among kids ages 6 months to 2 years. The
pedi tested her for RSV, which she thankfully does not have, but unfortunately,
bronchiolitis can have a number of complications, too - like ear infections or
pneumonia.
So now we're proud owners of our own
nebulizer and will be administering treatments every 4-6 hours. I just did the first treatment at home (after she'd gotten one at the doctor's office this afternoon) - and needless to say, she's not a fan! The whole infection can take up to 2 weeks to clear up, and the
pedi also told us to be prepared that Liana will catch it, too :(
I knew it would only be a matter of time until we'd be dealing with the first respiratory infection, but it still is a total bummer. What sucks especially is that I'm almost certain the babies picked up the bug at the doctor's office when we were there for their 6 months appointment.
Please keep little
Amaya in your thoughts and prayers, especially that her fragile lungs would be able to fight of the infection quickly without developing serious complications.
