Don't know if anyone saw Opr.ah yesterday, but she had the first-ever pregnant *man* on her show. No joke. He really is 6 months pregnant...except that when you watch the show you learn he, biologically at least, is still a she. He still has his female reproductive organs which is how he's actually carrying a baby. But it does look bizarre, especially this picture here:
The big question that kept getting asked was "Do you think the world is ready for this?", to which this man continued to answer "Yes." His feeling is that pregnancy is a process, and the desire to have a biological child is a human one, not a gender one. Okay...
It started me thinking...wouldn't it be great if Adam could carry a baby for us? Wouldn't that solve all our *problems* in that department? Of course that would be amazing, if only it were truly possible (and of course if he was willing to look like the above pic - I bet maternity clothes would present a challenge...). In some parts of the medical research world they are working on an external womb, an engineered uterus that would be capable of carrying a baby to term, and uterine transplants. In the future these may make very viable options for women in my position . But that's a long time away, if it ever works. And certainly not in time for a sibling project for baby girl Brown!
I think it's great this man is having a baby with his wife - and there are many women out there who will be very envious of her not having to be the one to carry. But it was a little too sensationalized on the "I'm a man, carrying a baby" thing, because that isn't exactly the whole story. I was left wondering, why exactly is everyone calling this a miracle? Biologically he's a woman, period. And that's the ONLY reason he can carry this baby.
Enough of the pregnant man story for one day : )
In other news, baby girl Brown continues to enjoy her vacation in Jamaica. Jenn said she's perfecting her Lord.of.the.dance routine, continuously flutter kicking on one side (she's an active little girl!) and that she's loving the spicy foods and the warm sun. I'm really looking forward to them getting home...
