Stretch vs. Strength. Hey Lara, There are a lot of overlapping benefits from the two. I actually used to do a HIP class here at Stanford that was 1/2 yoga and 1/2 pilates...I loved it! I got to yoga when I'm craving a good stretch. However, yoga also gives me good all-over strength (depending on which poses I do) and is great for balance. Pilates is all about core strength. I don't find as much stretch and balance here, but definitely more muscle toning. hope that helps! Are you trying to decide between the two? Go for both!!

Capital Y yoga is a set of tools for human evolution.

Pilates is a method of working the musculoskeletal system.
