I would like ideas on training a male who is recovering from back surgery (L2/L3 microdisectomy): best exercises to do, and modifications. Also, any resources for further information.
Avoid too much lumbar flexion and rotation. Focus more on neutral spine and extension. Watch that legs move separately from pelvis and that lower back is not compressed down in exercises such as 100, ab series. Glutes are probably weaker due to tighter hamstrings. Work small, controlled, and avoid too much lower back flexion and he should be feeling better.
