Traveling

Posted Jan 14 2009 8:38pm

Prior to my injury and with a summer off from college I traveled to Europe to visit my brother. I've visited Germany France and Austria and I traveled around the United States, Mexico and Canada mostly with my job. This was all prior to GPS when map reading was a skill and getting lost was par for the course.

Now it seems everyone has a GPS device mounted on their windshield. I myself use a tom-tom and I cannot believe how accurate they are. I love to hear the phrase "you have reached your destination". How many times have I been lost in New York City, Los Angeles or Ontario in the 1990s praying for a magical device such as this?

I find it just too difficult to travel these days. The airlines beat up my chair, cancel flights, and accessible vans are over $1000 a week to rent and of course gas is over four dollars per gallon. If I could travel again I would go back to Plymouth, Massachusetts and have lobster, clams and oysters sitting on Plymouth Bay. Maybe it's been raining in pittsburgh too many days ........

The picture is plymouth bay and the tall ship is the Mayflower II
