Seizure Alert Dog

Posted Jan 14 2009 8:39pm
Here is a good newspaper article out of Rhode Island regarding a young woman and her seizure alert dog. It's a great example of a service dog restoring the independent lifestyle of a person with a disability. Prior to receiving her service dog she was virtually a prisoner in her own home, afraid to leave the house because of her seizure disorder. After receiving her dog Stevie, she feels comfortable leaving her home, going to restaurants etc.

I rated this newspaper article good and not great because it uses the offensive term wheelchair bound. I can't wait until I see a newscast or read an article that refers to an individual who uses a wheelchair in person first language. I am not wheelchair bound I'm a person who uses a wheelchair for my mobility needs. I bet the reporter would be offended if I said it's a good article by mathematically deficient Bruce.
