The Alcatraz Sharkfest swim is in two weeks. Their official guide just came out; check it out here . My favorite quotes from this are
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A SWIM FOR NOVICES OR THOSE UNPREPARED TO SPEND UP TO ONE HOUR AND 15 MINUTES IN 60-DEGREE WATER. If your time for a mile in the pool (72 lengths or 36 laps in a 25-yard pool) is longer than 40 minutes, we do not recommend that you attempt this swim.
and then there is this one
You will attempt the challenge which only one Alcatraz prisoner – John Paul Scott – successfully completed. Of course, Scott was discovered the morning after his escape on the rocks near Fort Point. He was taken to an Army hospital in the Presidio, where he was treated for shock and hypothermia before being returned to the island prison. Both the Anglin Brothers and Frank Lee Morris made it off the island, but were never seen again. Their fate remains unknown. Be prepared for the experience of a lifetime!
Next year they are adding 4 new locations to the Sharkfest lineup including Las Vegas. They ultimately want to have a Sharkfest in all 50 states! Who Says I Can't do all of them huh!?
