Professional pet sitters throughout the United States and Canada have completed the 2009 Wishbones for Pets pet food/supplies drive in their local communities.
Each year professional pet sitters join Wishbones for Pets to continue to advance its mission of helping homeless pets by sponsoring a rescue group within their own community. For six weeks prior to Thanksgiving they work with businesses to collect food and other necessary items for the chosen pet charity. It’s a way for people to help pets in shelters, but also serves as a way for pet sitters and local businesses to work together in an effort to let the community know about their goods and services.
In spite of the financial difficulties many people are currently facing, this year’s program was a success. Wishbones for Pets participating pet sitters collected countless bags of pet food, money, and other supplies for needy animal shelters & rescue groups. LaVaida Olson, of Happy Paws Pet Sitting in Santa Clarita, CA said about the pet charity she and other sitters in her area sponsored, “The shelter New Leash on Life that had to close their doors in October was able to re-open towards the end of November. The article in our local paper for Wishbones helped bring much needed attention to their situation.” In Madison, Wisconsin, Tami Lewis of Gotta Go Out Pet sitting wanted to celebrate the anniversary of her business and give back to the community and Wishbones for Pets was the ideal way of doing it.
Plans are already underway for the 2010 Wishbones for Pets program. Professional pet sitters who are interested in taking part in the program are invited to visit the Wishbones for Pets website (www.wishbonesforpets.com) where they will find information on how to register as a representative and get started in their own community. Animal shelters and rescue groups looking for assistance are also invited to visit the website to learn how to connect with a pet sitter offering the program in their area.
Wishbones for Pets, established in 2004, is the first pet sitter related charity open to all professional pet sitters in the United States and Canada. It runs annually from mid-October through the week after Thanksgiving. The founder, Janet Depathy saw a need to help unite pet sitters who are naturally passionate about animals and their care.
