The other day I did a social media call with Kristin Morrison of Six Figure Pet Sitting Academy. I was there to talk with people who are interested in getting up to speed with social media. Kristin asked me about social media in general and websites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others. We had a great crowd and some really good questions from our listeners. People really seemed to be soaking up what we were talking about and had some great questions.
We actually covered quite a bit in the hour and a half call, and from the emails I’ve received today I can tell people are trying to digest it all! I could almost hear the excitement in some of the emails, which for the most part, centered around Twitter. So I thought I’d answer a couple of the questions here on the blog.
What is a hashtag?
Hashtags make it easy to follow tweets about a particular topic on Twitter. For example, take a look at this tweet from last night:
The hashtag in that tweet is #psusaTC. Whenever someone tweeted about the class, they included the hashtag in their comment.
If you want to see the comments people had about the class you can search for the hashtag with the little search box right on the Twitter page. You can also do a search at http://search.twitter.com, or if you use a Twitter app like TweetDeck you can set up a search column for the hashtag you’re interested in.
What is #woofwednesday?
#woofwednesday is a fun way to put a hashtag to work! When you use this hastag it’s a way to let other pet people know you like what they have to say. You might even help get them a few more followers in the process! When other people see your #woofwednesday tweet, they’ll check out the people you mention and will follow them if they look interesting.
#woofwednesday is for all sorts of pet people, so send a #woofwednesday shout out for people who have pets (not just dogs!), people who like pets, people who tweet about pets…or for even for the pets who tweet!
Here are few other hashtag days you might want to know about…
On #meowmonday let everyone know who your favorite Twitter kitties are.
