Posted Feb 02 2009 10:56pm

QUESTION:

where he scratches or chews his skin,i,ve bathed him in anti scratch shampoo, and
rinsed it out thoroughly,he,s eating and healthy otherwise.he,s brushed
regularly,and i,ve looked for lice etc,,no
sign of hair loss either.

answer:

Dear,

The key causes that can lead to skin scraching are:
- Food alergy
- Anal sac desease
- Ecto parasites such fleas, ticks…and alergy on their bite
- Scabies

You claim that there are no fleas. Usually animal can develop alergy on fleas bite, beside

you cannot see them. Use anti ectoparasital treatment, such as Fipronil (Frontline etc.) to ensure this cause.

Some rases can develop food alergy. Acording to this try with so called “hypoalergenic food” that you can buy.

Examine sore patches for scabies at your vet.

Clean anal sacs at your vet, because overfilled sacs can lead to very severe skin problems.

Avoid pork meat and products.

I hope this would help you

Best wishes

Damjan
