Pit bull responsible for dog mauling and felony charge

It seems that no matter how hard people try, it's hard to shake the violent stereotypes plaguing pit bulls.
Ivan Batinich, the 22-year-old owner of a San Jose pit bull, was charged with a felony after his dog attacked 57-year-old Steve Belsey and his 3-year-old Shiba Inu, Bella. Belsey picked up Bella to protect him from the attack, and in return was bitten over 20 times by the pit bull, named Brutus.
Bella ran off and hasn't been found yet. Belsey and his wife have been relating information on their website: www.bringbellahome.info. You can read the full story here.
Perhaps a larger problem is the fact that Brutus was unneutered. Neutering can help to curb some of this aggression. There's no way of knowing whether neutering would have prevented an attack because there are so many other factors in play, but it sure couldn't have hurt.
