Leave a dog in a hot car, cough up $1000

Posted Jul 09 2009 5:16pm

Salt Lake City has the right idea. Dog owners who are thoughtless enough to leave their dogs in a car during hot weather risk getting a $1000 fine for their stupidity. Check it out . . .

Dogs and automobiles can make a terrible combination on a hot summer day.

Parked automobiles are simply unsafe for both humans and animals during the summer months. The sun creates a mini-greenhouse inside the car.

Although temperatures might be 80 degrees outside, they can reach up to 120 degrees in a car after it has been sitting for just five minutes.

For this reason, Salt Lake County Animal Services is reminding us that it is against the law to leave your pet, even healthy looking dogs, inside sun-baked vehicles.

Shon Hardy with Salt Lake County Animal Services warned that it could mean up to a $1,000 fine.

Honestly, I think it’s pretty pathetic there’s a need for a fine like that. But I know for some, money is more important their their pets, so I hope this works as a deterrent for those people.
