In Memory of Atti

I’m rrreally sad to have to say goodbye to yet another VERY pawsome dog this week on Bark N Blog, sigh. This one was rather sudden so his Mom, Jeanie, Founder of the SharPei Health Education Group is having a pretty hard time. Atti was another of the special Teacher Dogs…a dog who loved unconditionally everyone and every dog he encountered. Sometimes these dogs are just too good to hang around down here for too long, WOOF! Atti was raised naturally much to the credit of his Mom Jeanie, WOOF! Here is Atti’s Mom sharing all about him…

Atti the SharPei
CH. Unique Mr. Attitude
” Atti”
December 12,1999 8:35 p.m.

Love walked right in and drove the shadows away ;
Love walked right in and brought my sunniest day.
One magic moment, and my heart seemed to know that love said “Hello !”,

Though not a word was spoken.
One look and I forgot the gloom of the past;
One look and I had found my future at last.
One look and I had found a world completely new,
When love walked in with you

He was everything a Shar-Pei boy should be……very much a gentleman, quiet and unobtrusive, loyal to a fault, ever at my knee, Mama’s boy from the very beginning. I knew the second his Dam dropped him into my waiting hands 8 yr.s 3 months ago that he was all I had been waiting for the past 12 yr.s & he never disappointed me.He breezed to his Championship in just 4-5 weekends, was a finished Champion at 14 months after not entering the ring until he was 12 months old and then home to live the elide of a ‘country boy’ that he so loved. Chasing the rabbits & barking at the small herd of deer that come each evening to graze in the pasture behind the house. He loved to romp & play “gotcha” with his best buddy Sarah who was 5 yr.s his junior. She is very lost now without him. Atti left an emptiness no other will ever fill. We look forward to the day we can see his great smiley face once again!

Atti
Awww Mom you caught me by surprise!
In this pic. I had caught him completely by surprise. He would not stay still for pic.s if he saw me coming so I had to sneak up on him!

Atti and Mattie
Hanging out with my sister Mattie
This is Atti with his full litter mate sister, Mattie. They were outside in their exercise yard. Mattie took over for their Mom after she died in being the alpha in charge & tho’ the smallest did a masterful job of it! Mattie crossed the bridge Aug.10,2005 renal failure as a result of amyloidosis ,the mystery illness that is killing our breed.

Atti and Sarah
This is Atti with Sarah who I adopted from a Shar-Pei rescue. Atti was the ‘Nanny’ of the crew. He was always washing someone’s face, groomed them relentlessly & in general saw that everyone was cared for. He would leave a small part of his meal so that the others no matter which one could have the last few bites even tho’ they had their own dinner bowl! Atti would also give up his position at the water bowl to allow others to drink if they approached. he was just such a gentleman yet also fiercely protective of ‘his’ home & territory… I could never allow myself the luxury of breeding him for fear he would carry forward the legacy of illness that I feel sure eventually did kill him, amyloidosis.

The Eulogy

I Am Everywhere
Look not where I was
For I am not there
My spirit is free
I am everywhere
In the air you breathe
In the sounds that you hear
Don’t cry for me Mom
My spirit is near
I’ll watch for you
From the other side
I’ll be the one running
New friends by my side
Smile at my memory
Remember in your heart
This isn’t the end
It’s a brand new start

Note from BNB: This is how much care and concern good, reputable, responsible breeders have for their chosen breeds. We admire and respect them for the work they do and how much they give to and for their dogs! You are greatly missed Atti!

Have a pawsitively tail waggin’, Peiful day, WOOF!
