I need a solution for my pomeranian's acute pain attacks in his right shoulder and neck areas.

My dog has attacks of acute pain several times a day. When he has an attack, he tightens the area around his right upper leg and shoulder. I have found that when he has an attack, I can ease it down quickly by picking him up an massaging the area. I took him to the vet about a week ago and he is on anti-inflamatory meds as well as muscle relaxants.
