The Houston SPCA announces the first-ever iWALK for Animals , a new fundraising venture that encourages animal-lovers across Houston and around the globe to ―walk where they are” at sunset on Sunday, Nov. 6. Participants can register online at iWALKforAnimals.org , individually or as teams, to help the voiceless victims of animal cruelty and neglect.
The Houston SPCA aims to raise $350,000 through corporate sponsorships coupled with the fund-raising efforts of registered walkers. Registered iWALK participants who raise at least $100 will receive a limited edition iWALK for Animals t-shirt. Fundraising tips may be found online at iWALKforAnimals.org .
Whether in their own neighborhood, at a local park, or elsewhere in Houston and around the world, walkers are urged to gather with friends and family, alongside their pets, at sunset on Nov. 6 at a location of their choice to support the protection and rescue efforts of all animals in Greater Houston.
"We are very excited about the flexibility of the iWALK," explained Patricia Mercer, president of the Houston SPCA. "We understand people are especially busy these days. With the iWALK, we wanted to introduce a new, refreshing opportunity for people who love animals to enjoy a simple outdoor activity— wherever they are—while raising money to support animal protection and rescue. Participants do not have to go far, but the dollars they raise will have a profound impact on the thousands of animals in need of our help."
Funds raised through the iWALK will support the many life-saving programs of the Houston SPCA, including placement of all healthy, adoptable dogs, cats, kittens and puppies; cruelty investigations; disaster relief efforts; and 24-Hour Injured Animal Rescue Ambulance. Committed to all animals, the Houston SPCA provided services last year to more than 100,000 animals. The organization’s adoptions program, where 100 percent of adoptable animals are placed into loving, life-long homes, as well as its humane education efforts help teach respect, kindness and compassion for all living things while strengthening the human-animal bond.
