Free July Programs at Discovery Green: Dock Dogs, Movie Nights, Fitness in the Park and More!

Discovery Green  is the place to be with family and friends during the month of July. Open 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, the beautiful downtown Houston green space provides Houstonians with movie nights, fitness classes, the wide open Jones Lawn for fun family games, dog runs and a children’s playground. When the Houston heat seems unbearable, visitors can enjoy interactive water features throughout the park and ice cold drinks at the Lake House.


Visitors to the park are invited to stay connected to Discovery Green online through  Facebook,   Twitter ,  Flickr  and  YouTube

Jones Lawn and Andrea and Bill White Promenade

Presented for the third time in Houston, DockDogs showcases four-legged athletes from across TexasOklahoma and Louisiana in high jump and long jump competitions off a 20-foot dock into a 40-foot pool of water. The competition is open to local dogs too.




Movie Nights with Mix 96.5

Summer Jazz Workshop All Stars

Friday, July 9, 12 pm

Listeners will be blown away by the young musicians taking part of Jazz Education Inc.’s annual 5-week training camp. Houstonians are encouraged to come listen to these “stars of tomorrow” as they play a variety of styles from Duke Ellington to originals written by staff and students.





Thursday, July 22, 8:30 pm

Talento Bilingue de Houston brings this stunning visual portrayal of Earth with aerial footage from 54 countries. Narrated by Glenn Close, the film begins with the creation and evolution of the animal species on Earth. This showing will be in Spanish. (2009; 118 min.)

Urban Harvest Farmers Market at Discovery Green

Sundays 12 – 4 pm

Building on the proud tradition established by Central City Co-op, Discovery Green welcomes a new market, organized by Urban Harvest Inc. a non-profit organization that operates Houston’s largest farmers market at Eastside.


Recycling Saturdays

Saturdays 10 am – 2 pm

Bring your glass, paper, plastic and aluminum to a recycling station at Discovery Green. On the first Saturday of every month, enjoy coffee and a newspaper at the Hilton Americas Hotel!  Click here for coupon .


Bicycle Repair Workshop

Saturdays 10 am – 2 pm

Nick Auger and Terry Hurley conduct free bicycle repair lessons. Bring your bike and learn how to fix it. Bicycle rides follow. Visit  for more information.

Lynn Pauls – Welcome to Manga Art 101

Ms. Pauls will cover a variety of aspects in the manga art world including a brief history of the style, the basics of manga, open Q & A and troubleshooting discussions and some advanced techniques.

Discovery Green

Discovery Green is a 12-acre park created by a public-private partnership between the City of Houston and the non-profit Discovery Green Conservancy. Since the park opened in April 2008, it has welcomed more than 1 million visitors and hosted more than 800 public and private events. The Discovery Green Conservancy works with hundreds of programming partners to present three dynamic programming seasons each year most of which are FREE and open to the public. The Conservancy raises all the funds needed for the programming that Houstonians enjoy—and to ensure our park remains an accessible and incomparable public gathering space.
