
As a general rule, you should not use topical skin ointments in an animal's ear canals. Medications intended for the ear canals are made up of products that allow for maximum penetration down into the canal.
Also, you really would be better off to have the "thick white secretion" examined by your veterinarian in order to get a better idea of what you're dealing with.
