The Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) Sugar Land has gone to the dogs to highlight our beloved canine companions and their impact on our lives and in nature!  To celebrate the exhibit, HMNS Sugar Land is hosting a special Dog Daze event on January 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. which includes fun for the whole family, two and four-legged!

Dog Daze attendees can peruse the photo exhibit, while learning more about the impact of dogs in our world or enjoy the special reading area, featuring children’s books about dogs, with the kiddos in your life.  Think you have the prettiest pup in town? Grab your costumed canine and enter the Pretty Pooch Pageant contest and compete for bragging rights at the dog park! Local photographer Michelle Whisenhunt will be on hand to take your pup’s photo which you can proudly display on the Museum's The Nature of Dogs community board for everyone to see. Canine-friendly vendors will be on hand to provide information, resources and rewards, in the form of treats, while highlighting  many of the great things you and your family can do with your dog in our fine city.  No matter what, everyone is sure to have a barking good time!

The Nature of Dogs exhibit - now open at HMNS Sugar Land - features the photographic artwork of Mary Ludington , who seeks to capture the true nature of these loving animals - their beauty, character and spirit - through photographs. Ludington’s photos capture the particular personalities of sixty different breeds, from the handsome and feisty Irish Terrier to the exuberant and hardy Labrador Retriever. Her subjects roam outdoors while she quietly observes, letting the dogs dictate her shots.  The striking collection of photographs that results from this natural approach offer us a glimpse of the dogs in their element—whether caught midstride or in an hour of well-earned relaxation.
