Before the flood there were no cats. God put two lions on the Ark. The mice and rats (the work of the devil) multiplied and began to chew holes in the ark in an attempt to sink it and kill all life aboard. Noah prayed to God for a solution. Then, in answer to prayer, the lion, the king of beasts, told Noah to hit him on the nose. When Noah did this, the lion sneezed and out popped the first two cats. The cats saved the day, exterminating the mice and rats, saving the Ark, and saving all life aboard the Ark. (They must have left a pair of rats and a pair of mice, since we still have rats and mice today.)
