The story chronicles the life of canine Lou and his human Steve Duno who rescued him as a flea and tick infested feral pup. Lou was born to roaming guard dogs on a marijuana farm in Mendocino County, California and faced a life of hardship till Steve rescued him.
The story follows the pair, from Lou adjusting to life indoors to Steve’s inspiration to become a dog trainer. Lou goes on throughout the story to become a hero, an inspiration and a friend to many. Lou won the respect of gang members, stopped an armed robbery, caught a rapist, comforted war veterans, taught sign language to kids and helped rehabilitate hundreds of aggressive dogs, saving them from euthanasia.
These are just a few of the accomplishments the Rottweiler mix made in his 16 year life. Though gone now, Lou still continues to touch people through Last Dog on the Hill! I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of Last Dog on the Hill and share it with your dog-loving friends. The book will touch you and remind you of the power of the bond between man and dogs. Perhaps it will inspire you to rescue a pup of your own and see how much it benefits your life! Check out the video below to meet Lou!
