Before your read Lost Souls: Found! Inspirational Stories of Adopted Boston Terriers, by Kyla Duffy and Lowrey Mumford, be sure you have a box of tissues handy. The book is part of a series of books about about rescued dogs – each book highlighting a different breed. Every one of the dogs in this book had a rough time before being adopted. Many of them were puppy mill dogs, others ended up in the pound, and still others were taken in by rescue groups before finding their forever homes.
Regardless of how terrible life started out for each of these dogs, the beautiful thing is that they eventually found their way into the arms of people who love them. In spite of, or maybe because of, their special needs and sad stories, their new families dote on them and go out of their way to make up for the things that happened to them in the past. They truly are lucky to have made their way from living terrible lives to happy loving homes.
What breaks my heart about this book is thinking that for every happy ending, there are many other dogs who aren’t so fortunate. The authors feel this too, and want to help make a difference for other rescue dogs. So, for each sale they donate a portion of the profits (20 to 25%) to help other rescue dogs.
Visit the Happy Tails Books website to for a list of dog breeds (including mixed breeds) they’ll be doing books on soon. And, if your dog has a story to tell, you can even submit it to be included in one of their upcoming books.
Each one of the stories left me thinking I need to go adopt another dog. I just wish I had the time, money, energy, etc., etc. to do just that!
