I can’t remember when I read a book that made me laugh out loud like Dogged Pursuit: My Year of Competing Dusty, the World’s Least Likely Agility Dog, by Robert Rodi. It’s the story of an unlikely dog agility athlete and his equally unlikely human teammate. Rodi starts his agility adventure with one dog, but when she has to be retired due to an injury, he adopts a Sheltie named Dusty. He’s sure Dusty is destined for glory and dives into the sport thinking his dog is going to be crowned the next big agility champion. Things don’t go exactly as he envisioned though and as time goes on his vision of the champion title seems to fade.
Rodi, who is more of an intellectual than the run of the mill dog sport enthusiast, finds himself smack dab in the midst of a whole new world. Not only does he find himself on a pretty big learning curve with the sport itself, but he gets a crash course in agility people too! Over the course of his agility career he learns quite a bit about himself, his dog, and the people he spends so much time with. And although some of his stories weren’t quite laughing matters for him, I guarantee they will be for you.
This book is hilarious! If you love dogs you’re going to love Dogged Pursuit even if you and your dog have never stepped foot in an agility ring.
