a cat's eye if infected, can we use a regular eye drop to help it heal?

Not sure what to do and is afraid he might become blind..

You should be reluctant to use any preparation for the eyes unless you have been directed to do so by your veterinarian after they have examined your cat.  The reason for this stern advice is that the wrong medicine could cause even worse problems with the eye than the apparent infection you are describing.

You should have your veterinarian take a look at the cat and then follow their advice.  It's much safer that way!
