I was born and raised in southern California near the beach and was very active until I moved up to Washington state in 1989 and the lifestyle change was  very different than what I was used to. I have lived here for 22 years and it is a very beautiful place but I never established a consistant excercise routine. I am not interested in skiing, or biking very much and this is a sport oriented town (valley). In Cali I could get on the freeway and go anywhere and do just about anything, any time of the year. Here, you're kinda stuck. We have all 4 seasons which is very nice, but I really dont like the cold ( it hurts my joints) and tend to only go out when I need to shovel snow. Which I like to do! It is a really good cardio vascular activity. If I want to walk I have to go to the mall early in the morning and walk inside. I'm used to going to the malls in Cali to SHOP not speed walk! lol So, I'm kinda disappointed. I need variety! When the weather is warm I go to the H.S. track to walk. People here walk "the loop" around the river. Columbia River. It's ok, but there are too many ppl and dogs and skaters and bikers etc. I cant seem to get into a routine anywhere. I seem to be able to maintain my weight. I dont over eat. I dont eat fast foods. I cut out pastries and soda's years ago. You cant get "fresh local" produce here all year long. So you really have to pay a high price during the winter for vegetables and fruit. I pretty much cut out packaged processed foods and frozen foods. So that doesnt leave me with much. I drink rice milk and have a whole wheat bagel or oatmeal (in the cold season like right now) an apple and yogurt for breakfast. Then later on I'll have a stick of string cheese, juice, I drink enough water everyday take a multi-vitamin, iron, and advanced D supplement. Today, I ate a slice of pizza. I stocked up on soup and crackers, teas, top ramen, canned spinach, tuna, and other canned vegetables, I make a chicken snackwich and cole slaw once a week and  I'll make a  bean and cheese burrito. My girl friend invites me to dinner and she serves veggies. When I'm out I'll buy a salad at the grocery store and a piece of chicken breast and a juice for lunch. I treat myself once in awhile to rainbow sherbet ice- cream. I really like stir fry and go out with my daughter to eat that as well. So, I havent gained weight but I havent lost any either. I have a roll of fat around my belly and the rest of me is proportionate. I wear a size 10. So, I need to work on getting that fat off of my mid section.
