What exactly are the standards that allow orthopedic surgeons to assert that they have an orthopedic "specialty"?
Dr. Chris Dangles (Carle Clinic Association) is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. In 2000, he was the self professed "ankle guy" at Carle Clinic Association. As of today. Dr. Dangles lists his specialties as "shoulder, hip, knee."
I am curious what proficiency a member or fellow of the AAOS must demonstrate in order to set forth "specialties" on the AAOS website (or any website). Moreover, does the AAOS assume any liability in providing the orthopedic surgeon (in this case Chris J. Dangles, M.D.) with the platform to proclaim a specialty?
Indeed, Dr. Dangles did not follow the published AAOS standards with respect to care and treatment of an ankle injury when I was his patient.
